Preparation

  • Gather the supplies.
  • Measure the frame and find a mat to fit inside.
  • Measure the inside area of the mat to be sure the design will fit within it, with about 1” space all around.
  • Print out the color sequence.

  • The Pellon Shape-Flex makes a nice backing; read the instructions that comes with the product.
  • Press the linen well.
  • Cut and press the Shape Flex to the back of the linen; let cool
  • Cut and fuse the Poly Mesh fusible stabilizer to the back of the Shape-Flex; let cool
  • These fused layers give the linen a nice hand for the embroidery and to be framed.

Machine prep and hooping

  • Center and hoop the fabric.
  • Load the design on the machine.
  • Select the thread colors according to the printed sequence.
  • Place the hoop on the machine and stitch the design.

  • Complete the embroidery stitching.
  • Before removing the fabric from the hoop, use tweezers and to trim any jump stitches.
  • To aid in squaring up the embroidered fabric for the frame, use the marks on the hoop to make tick marks with a pencil.

Final Steps

  • Before trimming the fabric, use the mat to decide the placement of the embroidery within the frame.
  • Measure to be sure the distance from the edges is the same.
  • Using a pencil, draw around the outside of the mat.

  • Use a ruler and rotary cutter and cutting mat to trim the fabric along the drawn line.
  • Clean the frame glass with the cleaner and paper towel.
  • Place the glass inside the frame and then place the mat inside.
  • Lay the fabric, right side down, over the back of the mat.
  • Place the frame on the back and fasten.

Conclusion

  • This beautiful framed Lord’s Prayer would be a special gift for a newlywed couple, as a sentiment for the loss of a loved one, or as a piece of home décor.

Congratulations! Whether for yourself or a gift, learning new ways to use embroidery designs increases your enjoyment of stitching. There is no doubt your project will be a “Grand Slam!”
